no, mplayer uses frame aspect ratios (stupid) rather than pixel aspect
ratios. so there's no "dummy autodetection" going on here, just using
width/height as aspect. of course, if it were using pixel aspect, it
would just use 1:1 as the aspect and that'd be even easier.
