well, you can avoid the problematic features in the encoder and choose a
idct which matches the decoders idct (lavc allows to select the idct used
in the encoder)
or the 21th century solution, sue the manufactor of the hardware decoder for
patent infrigment (note the mpeg-la license probably only applies to
conforming mpeg4 decoders ...) ... ok you would need to buy a mpeg4 patent
from someone first but there are many so maybe thats not so unrealistic
