[MPlayer-DOCS] Translation problem

Hi there,
I'm currently taking care of syncing the French manpage with the English
one.
Could any of you clarify what means this sentence (which documents the
directfb option):
This option doesn't have any effect on progressive film material
like most MPEG movies are.
The problem I have is about the meaning of "progressive" material:
Does that just mean a video muxed with audio, or ... ?
