FYI, xterm is broken as well in at least one respect. You can check with
the testwm code I attached to one of the last mails. At startup, xterm
sends two XConfigureWindow(), and expects to get 2 ConfigureNotify's or
waits 5 seconds before it sends the inital MapWindow().
