  I have to say I agree with Diego on this one!

  Diego, I even dug out your old patch and the discussion.  It is
definitely on my list to look into it. Before I have to finish some
other things though.

  I also wanted to look into how the MPlayer forks do it.

  IMHO the patches can be committed if they are correct and done
anyway. It doesn't do much harm anymore and will all go away once
we have a better solution to deal with FFmpeg configuration.
