Great! I've just run a few tests and it seems mplayer works
completely out of the box. See this video playing:

That's an Altera Cyclone3 FPGA, running a Nios-II CPU, a v3.7 kernel
and a buildroot-based rootfs.

FWIW: the patch adds both target and host mode, but only the former
is needed to cross-compile mplayer.

I hope you can add nios2 to mplayer soon!
