It feels nice to have the revived mpg123 established at last by
replacing this rather prominent fork of it.

And, regarding performance; my new "enemy" is ffmp3float ... there is
an improved approach to huffman decoding that should be surpassed or at
least copied. Then mpg123 is the fastest again, without caveats (well,
also without funny mp3lib builds prompting grey hair;-).
