That would be nice. E.g. adding a new option/config file token for 
preferred languages and then checking for audio tracks with this 
language first, and subtitles later, if no matching audio is found.

This cannot work all the time. E.g. my "Vengeance" DVD has two audio 
tracks, "de" and "en", but "en" is a mix of Chinese (probably 
Cantonese), French and English. I prefer to watch it using the "en" 
audio track, but with German subtitles ("de", only subs on disc) enabled.

But most of the time, looking for preferred languages would do The Right 
Thing™.

Some table specifying the equivalence of two- and three-letter language 
codes (e.g. en == eng) would help usability.

Don't hold your breath waiting for me to come up with a patch... ;-)
