Without your patch, the status line quickly converges to

A:  50.4 V:  50.4 A-V:  0.000 ct: -0.495 1232/1232 16%  2%  1.8% 1 0 48%
                   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

which stays (nearly) constant. Audio is played at the correct time (e.g. 
pistol shot). Some minutes into the movie A-V: and ct: start to have 
small changes, ct: always staying in the interval [-0.495,-0.499].

With your patch, the A-V: and ct: fields of the status line are 
constantly changing. They both mostly display small values (±0.0xx), 
never as big as -0.495. Audio is noticably late.
