I was a little bit in doubt when typing it, too. As I'm not a native
speaker either, I searched the web for it and found "to losslessly
compress any data stream" on the english Wikipedia page about "Lossless
data compression":

So I guess the word is at least not completely wrong.

I used UTF-8 encoding. I do not know your locale settings, but passing
the patch through e.g. "iconv -f utf-8 -t latin1" might help...
