Ingo,

gnome-mplayer can now be configured to not use dbus (autodetected when
dbus development packages are not installed or --without-dbus), SVN
r1817 of gnome-mplayer is required for this feature. However, with dbus
support disabled, gnome-mplayer cannot function with gecko-mediaplayer
to support media in firefox.

gnome-mplayer would work when compiled with dbus support, but dbus was
not running, but this patch allows it to be compiled when dbus is not
present.
