I honestly don't know how mencoder wouldn't be working for PAFF.
I tried it today with both pts patches applied and did an 50fps
encode of one of the PAFF samples with yadif=1, without problems.
But if something needs different handling, it's not difficult to
add a run-time check to determine if we're playing or encoding.
