As it is a simple add-on and doesn't touch any other code... what
about the mpg123 decoder patch I re-submitted after massive
discussion, which then suddenly grew silent?

http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-dev-eng/2010-May/064686.html

I moved it down in codecs.conf, so that users only get it on specific
request -- so there is zero impact by default.

But getting this code in would ease the strange debugging of the
overhead between libmpg123 and MPlayer, which prevents the codec from
being a no-brainer on 3Dnow platforms, at least (on other platforms
like x86-64, the new optimizations in libmpg123 compensate the interface
penalty and are able to surpass mp3lib).
Apart from speed considerations, the mpg123 decoder can also be an
improvement for users, for example via less annoying arifacts during
decoding of broken streams (like you get from DVB-T with bad reception).

Alrighty then,

Thomas.
