Hi Dan,
I guess you're using mplayer with your nice timing patches. I have a 50hz 
plasma and have many jaggies when playing pal 25hz contents. (jumps, skips)
I think the problem is because mplayer does not display at 25hz using even 
frames of 50hz output, but the error correction algorithm makes it randomnly 
choose on of the 25. I don't know if i explained well, let's try graphically:

If this is 50hz cadence:
........................

Instead of diplaying this
|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|.

Mplayer shows
|.||..|.|.|..||.|.|.|.|.


The problem completely solves if I use vo=gl:yuv=2:swapinterval=2 
(swapinterval syncs every two frames)

Does your patch would solve this using vdpau?
