That is probably the best plan.
In case you don't regularly read mplayer-dev-eng (and ffmpeg-devel):
Small patches are far more likely to get accepted, so you should _really_ try
hard to implement small steps instead of presenting a (complete, but) huge
patch that is _very_ unlikely to get accepted.
Don't forget that AACS uses AES to encrypt data and there already is an AES
library in libavutil.
I have a related question:
If you try to copy an (encrypted) stream from the Blu-ray disc to your
hard-disc (using OS), is the encrypted file actually copied and can then be
decrypted (using the known keys)?
If yes, imo, you should start there.
