Just before I was going to commit I thought I'd run it through a final
series of tests only to discover 6 and 8 channel LPCM was simply not
working at all.

After much debugging, I narrowed it down to the 190.xx series nvidia
drivers.  It seems that if the system has had 185.18.xx running since
last reboot, upgrading to 190.xx is fine, but as soon as you reboot,
there are various problems with HDMI audio.

Unfortunately mplayer requires 190.xx as of r29823.  I've been posting
about the problem to a thread on nvnews.net forums.  Does anyone know of
a better way to bring a bug to nvidia's attention?
