"Why" is the obvious question. Xv has been tested for a long time, and
with this change crashes in VDPAU preinit will break MPlayer with
default configuration completely.
While I'd have to investigate more, VDPAU also seems to be a lot (like 4x)
slower than xv when the "blit" engine is used, though I suspect that I
just messed up my driver installation again (because -vo gl is slow, too,
but only on the second 8400GS card, it is fine on the 7600)...
