They work on different kinds of objects, so I do not think they would help
without much work.

There is another problem with DVB subtitles: they do not know the size of
the canvas they are supposed to be applied to. As far as I understand, this
is just supposed to be the size of the (main?) video stream in the same
program. This makes scaling the subtitles difficult, since we do not know
from which size we are scaling.
