[MPlayer-dev-eng] Cannot change subtitle font using -subfont

Hi

I've been pulling my hair out trying to change the default mplayer
subtitle font.

The -subfont option does not effect the font no matter what I try, the
-font option work perfectly as illustrated in the linked picture below
(Warning: 4M picture):

http://www.g-b.net/mplayer-font.jpg

As you can see the menu options (-font) work correctly and changes as
documented using the -font option.

But as you can see the subtitle font (-subfont) is really blocky and has
a thick blurry edge - unreadable from a distance.

I've search this mailing list back to 2006 and googled but cannot found
anyone else having this problem, I get the same result on multiple
machines of freshly installed FC8, FC9, FC10 and FC11.

I've installed libaas + devel and tried multiple versions of mplayer
(even last nights snapshot) but no luck!

The mpg file is a rip from my DVD disc using mplayer's -dumpstream option.

I have this exact problem with 99% of my DVD rips.

Running mplayer with -v results in the following output:
