I have been trying to contact Evgeniy for days and haven't heard a word 
from him.

The last time I spoke to him, he told me flatly that he's too busy at 
the moment to contribute or review any new libass code aside from tiny 
things like the earlier patches.

Unfortunately, his silence has been quite annoying from advocacy 
standpoint and I'm getting a bit desperate and irrational as you can 
see. The fansub and anime community desperately needs these libass 
improvements and would rather not wait another year or two for the next 
stable release or be forced to use the SVN.

The whole point of all this is not selfish since it would prompt Debian 
and RPM packagers to finally update their builds and include 
vsfilter-equivalent subtitle rendering. As things stand right now, 
libass is still in the stone ages and deserves at least one more  major 
upgrade before it is abandoned in favor of projects like Kumaji.
