Unfortunately, this also happens on recent configurations. Actually,  
this is a BIOS dependent thing and there are many BIOSes that don't  
really care to fill in the right info. Though, it's really simple (and  
well documented) to reconstruct clean CPU names, at least for AMD,  
there are pretty nice algorithms. So far, I have seen more broken  
BIOSes in this regards...

And, even if a BIOS is fixed, a user will not necessarily update it.  
So, generally, this CPU string is pretty useless unless you are very  
lucky. However, it's not really MPlayer's role to reconstruct the CPU  
string either.

There are really users wondering that? And simply printing out things  
will make them happy and suppose it's used even if this is not true?  
This is really surprising, humans have weird logic... ;-)
