I found a trick that works for me in that case:
- Shutdown the Xserver (through /etc/init.d/gdm stop), don't kill -9 it
- Wait a little for X to shutdown, then you can kill mplayer's pid, twice.
Again, don't -9 it
- Once it's killed, you can rmmod nvidia and restart your Xserver, it will
work as usual
Otherwise, this could really lock and the only solution would be to reboot
the computer. Anyhow, I think the latest drivers (180.29) do recover
nicely by now.
