I believe a lot of people using those subtitles do it with VLC, which seems
to behave like mplayer did six months ago.

I meant with anamorphic content. But I can not find it again now.

It requires accessing static variables in the renderer, I could not help
changing the code. Anyway, that part of the code is already very different
in the external libass. If I have time, when things are done in the original
mplayer working tree, I will try to see what needs to be done in the branch
using the external libass.

Please have a look at the attached patch.
