Better later than ever :)
I just tried to fix a bit the patch and remove one feature from it
(namely the capability to redrawn while being paused) as it was a 
controversial hunk.

But I agree, the feature is extremely useful.
Do you still use it on Freevo ? If so I guess it'll simplify your 
integration. Also is it problematic for you not to have the periodic 
update any longer ?

Thx for the other comments, applied the changes in this newly attached 
patch.
