Jim, I have a suggestion - why don't we keep the surface locked by
default and skip all those checks in draw_slice and render_d3d_frame?
Then we'll have to unlock the surface before present and then lock it
again. This will place all lock/unlock code in one place - at the end
of render_d3d_frame. I was just thinking about it... It's not that
important.
