[MPlayer-dev-eng] Recursive make broken, make bug??

Hello,
when running
> make -j3
I currently get a lot of
> make[1]: warning: jobserver unavailable: using -j1.  Add `+' to parent make rule.
And building takes quite long.
I found that changing:
> define RECURSIVE_RULE
> $(part)/$(part).a: recurse
>         $(MAKE) -C $(part)
> endef
to add a + before the $(MAKE) fixes it.
Is that a bug in make (I use 3.81)?
And even if it is, how about adding this workaround?
