It was always for me. There are several files maintained by me that
should be tab-free and a few more that I removed the maybe two tabs
that were in there. It seems a way to a (more) consistent coding style
without requiring agreement (beyond that adding tabs to a file where the
remaining > 100 lines do not use any makes no sense).
To those who prefer tabs something that does not allow spaces as leading
whitespace might be interesting, but honestly I doubt it would work out
(which is why I personally consider using tabs for indentation just
broken - for aligning comments it is a bit different, but in my
experience it only causes problems there as well).
