Thanks a lot ! You saved me a lot of time.
I'll have a deeper look in the evening and I'll cut out many parts of
mplayer.c from your patch
that I already found not being useful at all.

Also I think we should not care about the libmpeg2 hack for still
frame support right now.
A much easier support can be achieved using -vc ffmpeg12.
