I can work on it but first we need to all agree on what we exactly want.
Having a unique mplayer.conf with sections is probably better but we
still need to keep the filename.conf support for file specific
options.
we need to define which sections might be addressable ?

#1: i'd like to have the stream part of course (hence my patch).
How should it be called ? stream.* or protocol.* ?

#2: i'd be ok with file extension but better call it extension.* than fileext.*

#3: container type however is too much imho.

anything else ?
