The basic API implementation in that is no usable IMO. It always sets
all locale categories including LC_CTYPE, and does not even ensure that
the translated strings are in UTF-8 (like MPlayer's internal strings
should be). mp_msg() always tries to translate its first argument and
there is no alternative to avoid that. I think it fails at implementing
parts 1 and 2 listed in my earlier message (gettext functionality and
presenting an API to the rest of MPlayer). Maybe it has a few changes
that could be used for part 4 (changing files to make individual strings
translatable).
