There're many messages (including pressing mouse buttons in nonclient
area, resizing the window, invoking the system menu, etc.) to handle
and I really doubt if the solution would be cleaner than this one.

AFAIK putting the window in another thread is a prevailing practice,
found in VLC and mplayer's win32 GUI.
