I don't know if there is anything similar to avio in MPlayer.
Using avio here seems a bit ugly, but it might be acceptable.

Except this questionable point, I'm ok with this patch.
Do anyone have any comment about using avio or not ?

Then it would be much more useful to add proper ass support in lavf than
to continue improving demux_mkv.c.
Any patch improving matroska demuxer in lavf is much welcome.
