I looked over the patches/svn code, double checking for
overflows and logic changes.  Looks good.  Sounds good,
as well, but my ears aren't so good either.  When I was
fiddling, I would: printf("%i: %i\n", cnt++, best_off);
and then: diff -y --suppress-common-lines | wc -l
