I've been building MPlayer binaries with CFLAGS set to -O2 -mtune=generic
for months without any adverse effects (though I haven't benchmarked
if it's slower or faster than with configure-selected CFLAGS).

Not to FC6. It might be present in Fedora 7, but I haven't checked that.
