I have not observed it in a while, but there was a period during which I
repeatedly (if not consistently) observed two behaviours when playing
files of different resolutions with -fixed-vo:

Going from wider to narrower, the resolution of the old file would be
kept, and the extra space would be filled with bright pink. (Why pink
I'm not sure, since apparently my system colorkey is blue or green.)

GOing from narrower to wider, the resolution would also be kept, and
only part of the new wider file would be displayed.

I never reported this officially, because I never managed to identify a
pair of files which could reliably trigger either effect. (I tended to
notice it primarily while watching tasvideos.org files while drifting
off to sleep.)

I'm not sure offhand what patch you're referring to.

The only patch related to "this issue" (and specifically to the
complaint mail you mention) which I know of came, as I said, on June
20th, 2006. Lemme look...

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.video.mplayer.devel/35198/

As I said, this patch did not appear to address the issue I had raised.
For all I know, it may address the one Vladimir is having.

side of it.
