Yes, we did (maintainer speeking)... but it's perhaps even more the
code in MPlayer's mp3lib having evolved over the time since it was
taken from mpg123. And... I haven't spotted any sr1 file in the whole
history I got of mpg123. I also have no Itanium box that could complain
about that alignment issue, but I have an alpha box that also is very
picky about that (and constantly complains about konqueror in that
respect) and I run mpg123 on it a lot without a hiss.
So I really guess that this is no issue of mpg123.

First thing is that I actually intend to get improvement from mp3lib
back into mpg123 (SSE).
Then there is the need to resurrect the mpglib with all the updated and
improved code (only mpg123 itself got the fixes so far).
I hope to have time this year for that... I really would like to see
all the good stuff of mp3lib and what we had on improvements in mpg123
merged into one decoder library - not just any decoder library but the
_fastest_ one, of course. Now mplayer has other options to play mpeg
audio files and people use MAD all around and for many efficiency of
mpeg playback doesn't matter as cpus are fast, but I hope that MPlayer
will continue to offer the fastest/most efficient mpeg audio decoding
available - using the code derived from and hopefully soon shared with
mpg123.
Alrighty then,
Thomas Orgis
(current mpg123 maintainer)
