MPlayer is already supposed to support Apple Remote thru lirc !
Some lirc configuration example:
  http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/apple/

And it seems that lirc has at least some support for darwin.
So if Apple Remote is not usable with lirc on darwin, IMO, you should
try to improve lirc instead of adding this hardware specific code in MPlayer.
