The gmplayer needs audio format and number of channels that's way it can show 
audio selection menu with all the informations:

Example:
DVDNAV->Audio languages->
English - Dolby Digital 5.1
Hungarian - Dolby Digital 5.1
English - Digital Theatre System 5.1
Hungarian Digital Theatre System 5.1
