While not complete, I think his renderer is already pretty good, and
it's unfair to characterize it as an "equally unfinished
slowly-if-at-all progressing project". He's fixed problems found in it
pretty quickly, and I'd expect it to be added to MPlayer in the near
future. If you think the other projects might be better candidates for
MPlayer SSA/ASS subtitle rendering, you should provide arguments for
that; however based on the asa website you mentioned that project does
not look like a viable candidate at the moment.
