Not supported at all. And I will give a short explanation on why.

Al lot of times I rely on programs to learn new things, and as I don't
know a LOT of things, I trust people that does. So if a programs gives
me the following "big fat warning"(tm):
"Your freaking (to use the polite word) sound cards does not support
sound feature XXX, instead it supports broken YYY. Please upgrade that
piece of c*ap to a sound card that supports XXX, until then your music
will sound VERY BAD."

I trust MPlayer developers know better that I that feature YYY is very
bad, and feature XXX is good. So the next time I buy a sound card I will
try it to have XXX. And when someone tells me: "Which sound card should
I buy?" I'll answer "Buy one with XXX, is better". So even I didn't
requested that info, it was useful, for me and for my friend, and for
the world. As long as I can disable that warning somehow, it is good for me.

Isn't that better that a program that doesn't output anything and just
sounds bad? IMHO Yes.
IMHO same things should happen with containers, colorspaces, VOs, etc.
As I fisically can't be an expert in every possible computer field.

Just my 0,05 cents.
