There is another way in windows too.
  i use this to check if what i´m getting in linux is ok.
  in control painel->video settings->advanced->adapter
  you can find the settings.
  Relevant info is
  Processor Type, number in (0xXXXX)
  and "bios info" for naming.
  
  There is no information of what core the processor use...
  ex: RV350 in case of R9550, for this you may find in internet...
  RV350 is the core for R9600, so no new code for R9550

You can first `lspci` to find the identifier of your device.
Then have a look at /sys/bus/pci/devices/YOUR_DEVICE_ID/ and especially
the device and vendor files.
(With older kernels, you can also have a look at /proc/pci IIRC).
