There is - it doesn't work unless mplayer is compiled with english
language only or in UTF-8 locale.

I.e. all those who want to have mplayer's messages in ru_RU.CP1251 or
pl_PL.ISO8859-2 or some other non-english non-unicode locale are out of
luck with the "new gtk2" gui.
