Speaking for myself...  -ac mad is the only MP2/3 codec which will
mute, instead of letting out a loud buzz, at the end of a file edited by
avidemux (v2.0.14).

Avidemux may be splitting audio frames, but I don't see why reencoding
the audio (with mencoder -ac mad) doesn't repair the problem.
