Well, I've tested this and ...I don't see any difference. But, I never 
had this problem before. It would be nice if somebody else could say 
this fixes a problem for them, but, in the absence of that, I'm going to 
figure you know your way around the A-V sync code well enough and give 
an ultimatum:

If nobody speaks up against this patch, I'm going to apply it Sunday night.

I'm a little bit concerned about the ?: test removed in the first hunk, 
though, so if anybody knows why it's there I'd appreciate if they speak up.
