I timed it on a whole DVD and I see no difference. -ocv copy, -ovc frameno, 
different output formats, all around 2:20 (+- one or two seconds) for this 
particular dvd.

Well I "wrote" (more like constructed) one that doesn't write anything to 
disk and just advances some counters and it's just as fast/slow as all 
other combinations of -ovc and -of I tried.

I can send a patch for muxer_null, but I doubt it has much use. As long as 
one uses -o /dev/null, the muxing overhead is negligible I think.
