No, since from what I know gettext needs setlocale. And using setlocale
makes the string comparison function in libc essentially unusable, e.g.
causing MPlayer to crash when using binary codecs and turkish locale.
Whoever "invented" the setlocale call should be ashamed of making one of
the worst design decisions in POSIX.
