MPlayer is about playing multimedia files and subtitles reading is part
of its normal usage. Are we talking about coffee here?

 From my point of view this is a quite usefull function and if you
just want to see a film you will not watching terminal window messages
anyway or you redirect text output to /dev/null .
So if you do not need it there is no problem here.
