Your patch is indeed interesting, and by a quick glance at it, fairly
small. My opinion about it, if it works, is that it could be integrated
if marked as "BETA code" on the man page, just like the "-fixed-vo"
switch, which is fairly useful too.
Does you patch still has issues with switching between different codecs
such as DTS, AC3, MP3, Ogg?
