That's a roff "oddity".  The sentence delimiters in roff are either two
spaces or a newline, so I chose a newline to settle on something.  It's
similar to LaTeX, where a period ends a sentence unless it is preceded by a
capital letter, in which case you have to append a \ followed by a space or
a newline to the period.
