How does interlaced or telecined anamorphic DVD content work? 720x480
gets scaled to 854x480 which a settop DVD will have to scale down to fit
on the TV, so the vertical resolution gets sampled down to probably
around 400 lines. I noticed this when I was ripping an Angel DVD, which
is anamorphic widescreen, and has some interlaced parts. (24 is also
like this.) It looks fine on my television, but I couldn't understand
why. :)

About MPlayer not supporting playback of interlaced video: how does
dfbmga work? Can't other vo drivers get decent interlaced output using
the same approach?

Cheers,
Jason.
